The Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is home to jaguars, pumas, ocelots, margays, and jaguarundis as well as tapirs, deer, and monkeys. the name 'Cockscomb' derives from the appearance of the Cockscomb Mountain ridge, that resembles a rooster's comb.
